On tree longevity

چکیده
Large, majestic trees are iconic symbols of great age among living organisms. Published evidence suggests that do not die because genetically programmed senescence in their meristems, but rather killed by an external agent or a disturbance event. Long tree lifespans therefore allowed specific combinations life history traits within realized niches support resistance to, avoidance of, extrinsic mortality. Another requirement for to achieve maximum longevity is either sustained growth over extended periods time at least the capacity increase rates when conditions allow it. The plasticity and modularity can then be viewed as evolutionary advantage allows them survive reproduce centuries millennia. As more scientific information systematically collected on ages under various ecological settings, it becoming clear key trait global syntheses strategies, especially connection with regimes possible future modifications. In addition, we challenge long-held notion shade-tolerant, late-successional species have longer than early-successional pointing out extreme fit this paradigm. Identifying extremely old groundwork only protecting and/or restoring entire landscapes, also revisit update classic theories shape our understanding environmental change.

Longevity of the Brazilian underground tree Jacaranda decurrens Cham.
Underground trees are a rare clonal growth form. In this survey we describe the branching pattern and estimate the age of the underground tree Jacaranda decurrens Cham. (Bignoniaceae), an endangered species from the Brazilian Cerrado, with a crown diameter of 22 meters. The mean age calculated for the individual was 3,801 years, making it one of the oldest known living Neotropical plants.
متن کاملEducation Externalities on Longevity∗
We argue that education exerts positive external effects on health, beyond the standard internal effects documented in the literature. We implement an innovative approach to control for endogeneity and omitted variables problems and present evidence for the significant role played by higher education in explaining longevity across countries. Our findings provide empirical evidence in support of...
متن کاملComplementarity principle on human longevity
In recent we introduced, developed and established a new concept, model, methodology and principle for studying human longevity in terms of demographic basis. We call the new model the " Weon model " , which is a general model modified from the Weibull model with an age-dependent shape parameter to describe human survival and mortality curves. We demonstrate the application of the Weon model to...
متن کاملModeling human population patterns on tree density
In order to evaluate the possible correlation between the tree density and the human population density, the forested area in Nav Asalem district located in Guilan Province was selected. The descriptors of tree number and basal area per hectare as well as the stand density index were used to determine the tree density, which was conducted from a 2014 forest inventory including 62 cluster (558 p...
